The Power Behind the Façade

ClearVue Technologies has secured its first high-rise contract to implement its signature BIPV solutions in Sydney’s skyline. Unlike conventional solar panels, ClearVue’s glass integrates photovoltaic cells within the glazing. The result is energy-generating glass that looks like any other high-performance window but works like a solar panel.

This innovative glass will create a sleek, glazed roof feature between levels 44 and 50. While visually seamless, it will silently generate solar energy for the building, contributing to both its power needs and environmental goals.

Why BIPV Matters More Than Ever

The brilliance of BIPV is not just in the electricity it produces but in how it redefines the design process itself. Traditional photovoltaics are often bolted onto buildings as an afterthought. BIPV, on the other hand, is architectural by nature. It empowers designers to integrate energy generation directly into curtain walls, skylights, facades, and even rooftop shelters, without compromising aesthetics.

In the City Tattersalls Club project, the choice of ClearVue’s pure black solar glass was made not only for its functionality but for its visual harmony. According to SRG Global’s project manager, the product aligned perfectly with the surrounding materials, preserving the sophistication expected of a heritage landmark in Sydney’s CBD.

Aligning with a Net-Zero Future

The Sydney House project is part of a $308 million redevelopment of the iconic Tattersalls Club, a social institution that has been part of the city since 1895. By incorporating ClearVue’s BIPV into the rooftop design, the developers are pursuing a 6 Star NABERS rating—Australia’s highest standard for energy efficiency.

This commitment aligns with the City of Sydney’s Net Zero Building Plan, which aims to make the central city a model for sustainable urban growth. With ClearVue’s technology now part of this vision, the building not only pays homage to its past, but also contributes to the city’s future.

A Collaboration Built on Innovation

This pioneering work is the result of a dynamic collaboration between ClearVue, SRG Global’s curtain wall facades team, and principal contractor Richard Crookes Constructions. Each partner brought a shared commitment to excellence, sustainability, and pushing the limits of what modern construction can achieve.

Martin Deil, CEO of ClearVue, noted that the project “will promote the global adoption of our products across commercial, residential, and institutional sectors,” underscoring the broader significance of this first high-rise BIPV deployment.
